Culinary Tour to the Amalfi Coast and Island of Capri, Italy

After years of searching, I finally found the perfect villa for us to call home for an unforgettable Culinary Tour to this gorgeous region of Italy.  I have such an emotional connection to this part of Italy and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the phrase “La dolce vita” was first spoken someplace along this amazingly beautiful Amalfi Coast!

This is where majestic scenery meets a laid-back lifestyle.

With its dramatic jagged cliffs, glistening sea, bowls of perfectly cooked pasta, and the best pizza on earth, this is the kind of place that makes you want to savor every single morsel. The coast and villages are beyond picturesque, and the people, culture, language, and food are as inviting as the landscape.

Here we can join locals in the café for espresso along with pastries, filled with custard and cherries, called pasticciotti. Then we might walk along the beach to meet fishermen and select from their daily catch. When we return to our villa, we can prepare lunch together and dine al fresco while sipping fabulous wine from the region.

And when we are ready to explore?  Just about everything is grown and produced here—olives, citrus, herbs, and cheese – so for food-lovers like us, this area is packed with possibilities!  In fact, we could easily spend a day taking in the fragrant smell of the region's famous Sorrentino lemons and maybe even visit the Pollio family at il Convento, where they make one of Italian's favorite drinks-- limoncello.  And we could head over to a local farm where they craft the sumptuous cow's milk cheese, called il Fior di Latte. Or perhaps we should take a class with a local pasta maker?  Oh, and we really must go to my friend's vineyard for a tasting of his delicious wines!

And I can’t wait to take you to the enchanting island of Capri!  After a scenic boat ride, we can stroll the Piazza Umberto, visit the Gardens of Augustus, sample the classic Caprese salad, or perhaps just relax and take in magnificent island views from Monte Solaro.  And if the weather cooperates, maybe we can explore the Blue Grotto.

I don’t know about you, but this sounds like a recipe for the sweet life to me!

Our villa and home for the week is the traditional, charming and spacious Oasi Olimpia Relais. A former noble residence, this Amalfi classic is situated just minutes from Sorrento, between the Gulfs of Naples and Salerno in Sant’Agata. This small town is endowed with many restaurants, bars, typical shops, and nature trails.

With panoramic views of the azure blue Gulf of Naples, this traditional estate has been lovingly renovated to preserve the incredible architecture and craftsmanship, while offering modern comfort. And the property is surrounded by an expansive and lush Mediterranean garden-- full of citrus and aromatic herbs. The estate also includes a stunning pool, jacuzzi and solarium with sea views.  Here we can stroll through the gorgous grounds and enjoy the gentle breezes coming from the famous blue island of Capri and then relax in elegant rooms, each finely furnished with antiques and unique artisan pieces.

** Due to the configuration of this private villa, there are limited single occupancy rooms available to reserve. Please inquire about availability.

Since this area is perched on the Mediterranean, seafood is plentiful and the ancient terraces along this coastal region are not only breathtakingly beautiful, the soil, climate and exposure make this an ideal area for growing the best ingredients.  Plus, our villa has a spacious and well-equipped kitchen, so I can’t wait to teach you how to make some classic recipes with a twist or two!!

During our hands-on cooking classes, we’ll make the famous fried pasta dish, Fritatta di Spaghetti, and tasty soup with escarole and beans. And wait until you try Zucchine alla Scapece. If you aren’t already, I swear it will convert you into a zucchini lover!  And I’ll show you how easy it is to make a Sorrento classic-- light and pillowy gnocchi with tomato and basil.

This area is packed with possibilities, from extraordinary vineyards to taking a class with a local pasta maker!  Just about everything is grown and produced here—olives, citrus, herbs and cheese.  In fact, we could easily spend a day taking in the fragrant smell of the region's famous Sorrentino lemons and maybe even visit the Pollio family at il Convento, where they make one of Italian's favorite drinks-- limoncello.  Anyone care for some fresh cheese? Delicious ricotta, mozzarella are produced right here and we might have to visit a local farm where they craft the sumptuous cow's milk cheese called il Fior di Latte

And I can’t wait to take you to the enchanting island of Capri!  I was there years ago and I’m still dreaming about it.  After a scenic boat ride, we can take in the sights at our own pace, strolling the Piazza Umberto, exploring the Gardens of Augustus, shopping, sampling the classic caprese salad, or perhaps just taking in magnificent island views from Monte Solaro!
