Culinary Journey to Tuscany

October 15-21, 2012
US $5,000.00 per person, double occupancy

(Single room supplement charge US $1,500.00)

My first tour is in the beautiful village of Strada in Chianti in the heart of Tuscany. We'll stay at my friend Maria Luisa's villa called Il Leccio during the harvest. The villa has been in her family for nine generations. The rooms are painted with frescoes and overlook the vineyards. We'll pick tomatoes from the garden, use her fabulous fruity extra virgin olive oil and cook thick bistecca alla Fiorentina in the kitchen hearth.

Classes

Tuscany Italy TourThe tour will include several hands-on cooking classes that focus on the best of Tuscan cuisine, using local ingredients from the villa and from the outdoor market.

Some of my favorite recipes that we've cooked include: Bread and Tomato Soup, with White Beans and Wilted Greens, Beef Braised Ragu in Two Courses, Red Onion Ravioli with Thyme Cream, Risotto with Chianti, Tiramisu or a decadent Caramelized Chocolate Almond Budino.

Accommodations

We'll stay at a luxurious and beautifully-restored villa in the heart of the Chianti region - famous for its incredible wines. Villa "Il Leccio" has been owned by a noble family for nine generations, and is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves in the small town of Strada in Chianti, complete with incredible sweeping views of the countryside from the swimming pool and manicured gardens. The villa is decorated throughout with hand-painted frescoes, beautiful chandeliers, and has two kitchens we'll cook in together: a professional kitchen as well as the villa's original kitchen with a working hearth where we can grill the famous Tuscan Chiannina beef!

Day Trips

In addition to our cooking classes at the villa, we'll visit regional vineyards to taste and learn about Chiantis, Super Tuscans, and Brunellos - some of the world's greatest wines. Tuscany is also famous for its olive oils and cheese, and we'll visit an olive mill and Pecorino cheese producer to see why. We'll visit Joanne's friends at a famous ceramics studio, shop the designer fashion outlets, and much more. I promise it will be an unforgettable week!
