To tell you how much I love Greece, I spent my honeymoon there with Joe nearly 6 years ago and have been looking for an excuse to get back there since. Finally, I’ve found a gorgeous, over-the-top, dreamy location on a Greek island! Just minutes away from Athens, there's an unspoiled Cycladic island which has managed to resist the pressures of time. It's the perfect spot to immerse yourself in Greece's rich culinary culture and I've made getting there easy for you!  Just fly into Athens and take a short ferry-ride to the island of Kea.

Surrounded by the sea and bathed in sunshine, the cuisine on this gorgeous island is driven by it's high-quality, super fresh ingredients and artisans who've been producing olive oils, wines and cheeses for thousands of years. Just imagine- sitting on your private veranda, chilled glass of white wine in hand, gazing out at the azure blue Adriatic Sea and dreaming about what we will cook together for dinner.

This place is so special and I can't wait to share it with you!

Greek Cooking Classes

The best Greek food is in the home and that’s exactly what we'll do! We’ll join my Greek friends and cook together in their well-equipped and spacious kitchen. You’ll love harvesting grape leaves to make dolmas for meze and using a mastelo, the traditional unglazed Cycladic ceramic pot, to roast lamb in the wood-fired oven. We'll make traditional breads, a delicious garlic and almond spread called skordalia and roll phyllo dough with local bakers.

Since we're staying right along the sea, we'll head to the port and select fresh fish to wrap in fig leaves and cook over the fire! We’ll taste some rare artisanal cheeses and we may even make some mizithra cheese on our own. Olive trees abound on the island and we’ll partake in some of the best olive oil imaginable. And of course no trip to Greece would be right if we didn’t do a few wine tastings. We'll work our way from tasting minerally Assyrtiko to sipping elegant Roditis rosés before savouring spicy Xinomavro.

Greece Accommodations

We'll stay at the luxurious Porto Kea Suites, one of the exclusive "Small Luxury Hotels of the World", on the lovely unspoiled island of Kea.  Just steps from the beach, it's the perfect place for us to absorb the Greek island lifestyle. Your suite features a sitting area within the spacious bedroom and a well-appointed marble bathroom. Each suite has a private veranda overlooking the azure Aegean Sea! Whether you want to relax and enjoy the views from your veranda, wander down narrow pebbled paths through an idyllic garden to relax by the pool, or stroll to the local fishing port, you’ll have plenty of ways to rejuvenate each day. This is the ideal destination to unwind and soak in the magic.

Greece Day Trips

Visits to markets, local artisans and craftsman are definitely on the agenda.  We'll take a walking tour through the main town and see ancient sculptures from the 6th century BC.  We'll take an optional leisurely hike on an ancient trail through the Karthea archaeological site to the pristine beaches and temples by the sea!  Want to try your hand at making olive oil?  Maybe we will harvest some olives and take a turn at the press!  There are so many special places to see and I can't wait to share them with you!

It’s amazing, all of this is just an hour from Athens and yet, Kea is far off the beaten touristic tracks.
