We all love reading the various top 10 lists out there, right? And although I’m no late-night TV host (even if some of my cooking show episodes occasionally air late in your area), my shows typically revolve around food, wine, and travel.
This summer with the heat waves across the country, from what I hear, there will be an amazing tomato crop. Many of you have heard me tell and re-tell (so sorry) the story from when I was about 6 years old, about how my mother would pick a ripe, delicious tomato from her garden, salt it, and then put it in a sandwich she made using homemade bread and of course homemade mayonnaise. I just told my mother’s tomato story to a large and hungry crowd at a cooking demo I was doing outside at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market in San Francisco. I taught the crowd how to make my BLT Salad with Creamy Aioli Dressing - and it was a hit - not a single lettuce leaf or crouton was left! I will repeat the tomato story and the BLT salad (yes, it's that good!) during my upcoming demonstration at SFChefs 2011 in San Francisco. Come see me there!
Here are my top 10 favorite tomato recipes I think you’ll enjoy making as you see delicious ripe summer tomatoes start to appear in your local farmer's market. Store your tomatoes at room temperature with the stem end up to prevent bruised shoulders. And never refrigerate your tomatoes!
10. Tomato Bruschetta
9. Pizza with Gorgonzola and Tomatoes
8. Heirloom Tomato Bisque
7. Peak-Season Tomato Sauce
6. Spiced Tomato Upside-Down Cake
5. Tomato and Corn Chowder

Enjoy!
