May has been a very fun month so far – I just can’t believe it’s almost the official start to summer. I was in New York for the James Beard Foundation Awards as a judge and also supporter of my dear friend and nominee for Outstanding Chef Gary Danko along with several nominated chefs from San Francisco. I did eat at some fabulous places in NYC, including Marea (which won for Best New Restaurant), Northern Spy Food Co, Carnegie Deli, Faustina and drinks at Bar Pleiades to name a few – and even caught FENCES on Broadway starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis – fantastic!
Back at home I kicked up into high-gear when I was invited to guest host one of the best food, wine, and travel radio shows in Northern California – Dining Around with Gene Burns on KGO-AM 810 live on Saturdays from 10am-1pm Pacific. I will be hosting the show for 3 weeks – tune and listen to me live this Saturday, May 22 and May 29th from 10am -1pm Pacific with lots of great food and wine guests from around the Bay Area. You can stream it live from the KGO website or download the free KGO app for iPhone or Blackberry.
In between radio shows, I’m off to LA to teach and busy writing a few stories for Bon Appétit, Cooking Light and Sunset so watch for those forthcoming issues. I have a cherry story in June/July issue of Fine Cooking which features some fun recipes including a Fresh Cherry Margarita. ‘Tis the season!
Since I am guest hosting the radio show Memorial Weekend I will be staying close to home in San Francisco. We’re planning to get together with friends to cook up this fabulous menu I came up with and want to share with you all.
